Ian Alwill

Ian has a Australian and international marketing and advertising background and has worked internationally for major marketing and advertising companies for more than 20 years of his working life.

He was a member of the Nestle Australia senior management operational leadership group from 1998 to 2012 and a member of the Nestlé Australia Board which is responsible for the Nestlé operations in Oceania. As a Nestlé Australia Board member he chaired the internal “marketing risk management” councils in the areas of nutrition, sustainability, and reputation management. In his position as Executive Director – Group Marketing and Communications for Nestlé, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Ian was responsible for the “consumer interface” of the Nestlé Company itself and its array of brands, in all its operating divisions. In addition to these responsibilities, Ian was also actively involved with Nestlé Marketing and Consumer Marketing & Communication issues globally and in particular its corporate Nutrition Health & Wellness strategy and implementation of which was directly responsible in Oceania.

From 2000 to 2009, Ian was Chairman of the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA). He led its successful defence, on behalf of the food and beverage industry, against regulatory bans on food and beverage advertising. He was awarded in 2009 the Philip J Warner Award by the AANA for his services to the advertising industry.

He still holds the Chairmanship of the Advertising Standards Bureau which administers self regulation of the industry via the Advertising Standards Board which is integral to the code administration of the self regulatory system. In 2010, the Australian Marketing Institute awarded Ian with the Sir Charles McGrath Award for his contribution to the marketing profession and the interests of the business community. He has worked internationally in competitive environments managing major international clients at global Advertising Agencies including Mc Cann Erickson (Australia and Japan), Lintas (Australia) and JWT (Australia and Philippines).

He was Asia/Pacific Region Marketing Director for The Seven Up Company and held other marketing positions with Australian marketing companies. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (B.Com Marketing) from UNSW and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors GAICD.
