Mark is a strategic leader with deep operational skills in building strong and profitable relationships and brands both in the US and across the globe with international assignments including a 3 year tour managing the agency’s Italian operation.

Mark is a global marketing and advertising executive who rose from Management Trainee to Chairman over a 36 year career with a single agency, Bates Worldwide.

He joined Ted Bates Advertising as a Management Trainee in February 1968 and rose to Chairman, Bates North America in 1997, a position held for seven years prior to retirement in September 2004. In addition to the role as Chairman, Mark served as Worldwide Client Director, for ten years, on the agency’s largest global account, Warner Lambert/ Pfizer.

In the 1970’s Mark managed Bates Italy for three years and upon return to the US helped to broaden Bates’ client base, expanding from its traditional packaged goods heritage to the following categories: travel (Hertz), wine and spirits (Brown Forman), computers (Commodore), armed services (Navy and Joint Recruiting), and office equipment (Xerox).

He led the agency’s pioneering involvement with Direct-to-Consumer advertising for prescription pharmaceuticals (Warner Lambert/ Pfizer (Lipitor), Bristol Meyers, (Glucovance), Wyeth (Altace) and TAP Pharmaceuticals (Prevacid).

Mark was named to the Bates Worldwide Board of Directors in 1984, Director of Account Management in 1985, and Managing Director of Bates USA in 1994. He also served as the agency’s representative to the Advertising Council and The 4A’s
